WHAM! (We Have A Mission!)
This is an ecumenical group for young people in school years 8 and up (current age range is 14-17). We meet each Sunday evening in the term time. We have a mixed programme of light-hearted fun sessions and more serious discussion sessions.
Our fun sessions include indoor games, outdoor games (cricket, rounders, ultimate Frisbee, tennis etc) ; quizzes, Masterchef/Bake Off and each term we have a trip out. Popular activities include trampoline parks, ten pin bowling or laser quest often followed by a meal out.
On discussion nights we look at a variety of topics from a Christian perspective. Recent themes have included ‘Poverty and Homelessness’ and our current theme is ‘Bible, Church, Worship and Prayer’. These sessions are fun, enjoyable and thought provoking.
We are keen to support various charities and are often involved in fundraising activities. Recently we completed a sponsored Midnight Hike in aid of Tearfunds Toilet Twinning.
Here’s what some of the young people have to say about Wham!
“It’s a great place to get together with your friends whilst exploring the Bible and having lots of fun. We go out to places like Gravity at Castleford. Recently we went away for a weekend with another Youth Group and had a great time”
Heather Age 17
“It is a really good place to go and we learn a lot about God”
Joseph Age 16
“It’s a fun way to learn about Christianity whilst socialising with friends”
